Photographer Bruce J. Parsons Releases Star Light

Thirty Years of Photographs of Star island

"A lovely collection... and a wonderul representation of one of New Hampshire's most beautiful places."

-- John H. Lynch
Governor of New Hampshire

By Bruce J. Parsons

Bruce Parsons loves the Isles of Shoals and Star island. He is both a former staffer or "Pelican" and the current Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Star Island Corporation. Bruce is also an architectural designer.

For thirty years he has photographed the island, its buildings, and the sea, seeking to capture just the right "magic light." His long awaited book of those photographs, Star Light, will be arriving soon from the printer, and is scheduled as a November 15, 2004 publication from Peter E. Randall Publisher.

Star Light is a book that captures all the feelings people have for Star island. For those who know the island well, there are images that bring reminders of past visits and friendships, and the certain knowledge that they "will come back." For those who have never been to Star island, here is a visual treat, a glimpse of a place that has captured the imagination of visitors for nearly four centuries. Study the images and you too will want to visit. And you "will come back." This is the only color collection of Star Island photographs currently in print.

From the Introduction

"Star Island has allowed my photography to blossom. From the island I have gained great joy and interest in light. The island, with its size and confined natural borders of the ocean, has allowed me a wonderful multi-decade study and documentation in almost all types of light and weather. While the man-made portions of the island have changed little in the last thirty years it amazes me to see how much the natural aspects have changed. The landscape is in a constant battle with the harsh environment of the exposed island yet it somehow continues to transform and grow. A subject like a building goes year after year virtually unchanged, however, how light plays off of it and how the natural vegetation surrounding it is in constant change makes it a different subject every day."
